PEACE BE WITH YOU.
Did you know Jesus says this phrase (salutation) four times after his resurrection?
Luke 24:36: “While they were still talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them + said to them, ‘Peace be with you.’”
John 20:19: “On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came + stood among them + said, ‘Peace be with you!’”
John 20:21: “Again Jesus said, ‘Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.’”
John 20:26: “A week later his disciples were in the house again, + Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came + stood among them + said, ‘Peace be with you!’”
Did you know this salutation is used in other religions as well? According to aleteia.org, “shalom aleichem” or “as-salaam alaykhum” (Hebrew + Arabic respectively for “peace be with you”), the proper, typical reply is “aleichem shalom” or “wa alaykumu as-salaam” (“and peace be upon you, too”), just as Christians reply “and with your spirit” in liturgical services.
I love this from wordsoffaithhopelove.com, “Biblical peace is not something we can create on our own; it is a fruit of the Spirit. The peace of God is different from the peace of the world. Biblical peace is more than just the absence of conflict; it is taking action to restore a broken situation. It’s more than a state of inner tranquility; it’s a state of wholeness + completeness.
Biblical peace is not something we can create on our own; it is a fruit of the Spirit. God is the source of peace, + one of His names is Yahweh Shalom (Judges 6:24), which means the LORD Is Peace.“
I created this tee because who doesn’t need a reminder to stay in peace? I believe if we are craving it, we need to know that it is already there. Just as the sea can be turbulent + even deadly there is a state of calm (a yin/yang). One of my favorite sayings about peace is “It does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble or hard work. It means to be in the midst of those things + still be calm in your heart.”
Peace be with you + blessings to all,
Kaysie
